Uh oh. Should'a checked on overnight temps yesterday but was preoccupied with numbers for taxes, getting to the grocery store, and to the school to vote for an over-ride. Woke up to reports of temps in the 30's this morning - only going to get to 20 on Mt Lemmon today. Sure hope we didn't freeze here last night. My tomato and pepper plants are still young and tender.
Got the numbers done by early afternoon, phoned them in then headed out to the school & Frys. It was strangely cloudy out. It seemed like the clouds were coming from all directions and when I got to the bridge over the interstate I could see that Tucson and the Catalina Mts to the north were completely obscured by a solid mass of gray and superimposed on that was a layer of dirty gray whipped up at one end in spooky swirls. Never seen anything like it. It looked end-of-the-worldish -- like some kind of hollywood special effect.
So, got the vote done and turns out Sahuarita was the only one of three districts to pass the over-ride. The Sahuarita School District was threatening to drop NROTC, PE, and music & art classes. I wonder how it is that things have changed so drastically from the 50's when I was in school in Goodyear, AZ. Back in those days everybody had a book and the books were free. Each year we all got new pencils, crayons and big red pads of paper ( Big something-or-other was on the front of the pad) in grade school. I still have the smell of those new supplies in my sensory memory. Delicious.
I loved music classes and still remember the songs we learned back then - mostly Disney ditties -- never smile at a crocodile... and beauty is as beauty does... Songs from Peter Pan and The Lady & The Tramp {humm, is this why "good" girls were attracted to "bad" boys???} and other current movies. At some point there was a recital - rehearsals got us out of class (!) and there we stood - each grade in its own section on the risers singing our little hearts out for our parents. Eventually I learned that I couldn't carry a note, even in a bucket, but that came later in maybe 7th or 8th grade when I tried out for choir and learned my special range didn't apply to "music"! Didn't discourage me much, as Jesse will tell you. I clearly remember a night at the cabin in Williams when he and some others were playing rummicube downstairs and I was up in the loft listening to music. Thought I was being quiet but Jesse called up "We can HEAR you!" But I digress....
I wasn't so crazy about art class unless it was a crafty type thing. In 5th grade I remember staying in art class when the hour was over to finish something I was working on. I should have gone back to my regular classroom. Got in trouble for that when I finally made it back.
I liked PE in grade school and by the later years my pal Nancy & I were a wicked pitcher/first base team, but after that I lost interest (especially in high school when we had to wear those horrible blue onesie things), I think all students should be required to take it daily. Especially in these days when so much time is spent sitting at a computer or one of those game things which I can't recall the name of. That memory glich called a Green Valley Moment {GVM} hereabouts btw.
The thing that got me out to vote was the threat of losing NROTC from the high school. Anybody reading this blog needs no explanation on that one.
By the time I left Frys it was raining. Cool. Desert rats love the rain - we get so little of it. The average we used to quote at the Desert Museum was 10"/year. Not been up to that lately. Digressing again. When I left the store it was pouring and after I stowed my groceries I took the long way to return the grocery cart. I loved the feel of the wind and rain on my face. By the time I got home and got the groceries inside the rain had let up quite a bit but I decided to go for a walk anyway. No umbrella, tho I did replace my wet sweatshirt with a lite jacket - wind and rain in my face. I love to be in the rain. I love the feel of the wind and raindrops on my face. It feels like its sucking out all the aches and pains and worries and replacing them with fresh, clean energy. It was fab. And when I got back I put on warm socks, flannel jammies and grabbed my Kindle. What could be a better end to the day!
Here's the real point of interest tho - on my way home the car windows started fogging up. And guess what -- I don't know how to deal with that! What DO you do when the windows fog up???
Lynnis? Membrain? Cindy? Rod? Honest you guys, I really don't know what to do.

Oh Pattie, please tell me that you were just funnin'...
But if not, turn on your defroster! Foggy windows are from the difference in air temperatures inside and outside the car. Once the inside of the car warms up, you can use the defroster setting on your cars heater...
Surely your car has a heater setting that will allow you to force all the warm air to the windshield. =))
btw, love listening to the rain, not so much walking in it. Though a good thunderstorm is awesome to watch sitting in a rocker on the front porch.
Lennis - totally NOT funnin'!
Defroster? Do I even have one of those?! Will check when I next use the car - wait, there are lines of something on the back window .... but that won't help in the front
Since it's happened twice now (once on the interstate 10 miles from home) I need to be sure I can deal with it!
Fortunately Frys is only a couple of miles away but that time on the interstate was scary. I turned on the heat, rolled down the window, tried to move the levers - which seem permanently frozen into the A/C on the face position - and ended up shredding kleenex around a little circle in front of me!
Think my brain must be starting to calcify............ Surely I learned this somewhere along the way.........
Oh my gosh, Pattie...
Okay, all cars come equipped with defrosters. Just look for the little icon that looks like \__/ (maybe even will have what looks like wipers) The rear defroster should be clearly marked 'rear'. Next time, let your car warm up before taking off. Spray a bit of WD-40 on the control levers before you go anywhere to loosen them, then work the heck out of them to get them moving freely. Or take it to your local garage mechanic, friendly neighbor, or to car dealership.
Let me know how it goes. Smoooooth, I hope. (oh yeah, chair dancin' here)
